The Bellevue Playgroup in Wrexham were excited to learn that they have been awarded a Golden Grant of £5,000 in funding as part of the Tesco Stronger Starts community funding initiative.

Golden Grants are awarded twice a year and are part of the Tesco Stronger Starts, £5million grant programme. The grants programme is administered by Groundwork UK with Groundwork North Wales looking after the scheme for the North Wales area.

The grants are there to help schools and children's groups provide nutritious food and healthy activities that support young people's physical health and mental wellbeing, such as breakfast clubs or snacks, and equipment for healthy activities.

The Bellevue Playgroup have a keen focus on outdoor play and will use the funds to purchase a substantial outdoor all weather shed to store the equipment they use for their outdoor play. Helen McCarthy, Manager at Bellevue Playgroup said,

“Being able to purchase the shed will make such a difference to our outdoor play provision. Our current storage situation is not ideal with limited space and infiltrated by the elements. We are extremely grateful that we were lucky enough to be selected for the Golden Grant in the Wrexham store”.

Alison Roberts, Community Champion at Tesco Wrexham commented,

“It is fantastic that we can support a local project with such a sum of money. We have had a fantastic visit to Bellevue Playgroup this morning and you can see that the healthy outdoor activities the playgroup undertake to support the children’s physical health and mental wellbeing are a key feature in the Bellevue Playgroup provision’.
