The Team Cymru project marked the end of their time with us recently by showcasing their activities at their very own event to celebrate their achievements.
Team Cymru supported by the Prince’s Trust is a 12-week programme for young people aged between 16 and 25 aimed at helping them build confidence and gain skills to enable them to take their next step whether that’s into employment or further training.
The special celebration event for Team Cymru was held at Venue in the Park at Alyn Waters Country Park. At the event, the project participants were presented with their completion certificate by Simon Plumpton, Delivery Partners Manager for Prince’s Trust Wales, and the Clwyd High Sheriff (High Sheriffs are appointed by his Majesty the King to represent him in the county).
Simon Plumpton, Delivery Partners Manager for Prince’s Trust Wales said, “The Groundwork North Wales staff team have done a wonderful job, it was a textbook Team programme, my congratulations to everyone who supported the young people. Our thanks go to the prime funder for the Team – NRW, without whom we would not have been able to run a team in Wrexham this year.”
In attendance where friends, family and individuals from local organisations that have assisted in the project such as support workers and those that offered work experience places to the participants.
Chloe one of the project participants attended Cabin Crew in Bwlchgwyn for her work experience, here is what she had to say about her time with Cabin Crew.
“I learnt how difficult it is to have loads of little people running around screaming. You also need to be able to have patience for a job like this.
I 100% would like a job like this in the future and would like to go on to do a course to be a play worker.”
During the celebration the project participants spoke about their time on the project, the activities they took part in such as gorge walking and canoeing which enabled them to overcome individual fears and work as a team. Various workshops such as money matters, CV writing and interview skills and the time they spent fundraising for their community projects.
The group raised funds to revamp the residents garden at the Conifers Care Home and add some raised beds for veg planting by completing a 137-mile sponsored bike ride (distance from Cardiff to Wrexham). The Team then started a production line of Christmas decoration and ornaments made from wood off cuts which they sold and raised over £450 to donate to the food cupboard at Gwersyllt CP.
The participants will continue to be supported by Groundwork North Wales and the Prince’s Trust through assistance to access further positive outcomes in education, training or employment.
