Volunteer Role Description: Community Fridge Assistant

Purpose: Food waste is a big issue in the UK and beyond. It’s estimated that a third of all food gets wasted. Most of this is avoidable and could have been eaten had it been better managed.

Refurbs Flint’s Community Fridge helps cut food waste, build stronger bonds within the community and redistributes good quality food.

Location: Refurbs Flint, Aber Road Industrial Estate, Flint, CH6 5EX

Key Responsibilities:

  • Working alongside the retail team, to provide access to the fridge when customers come to collect food.
  • Keeping the fridge room clean and tidy and following Food Safety guidance
  • Responsible for signing food in and out of the fridge.
  • Ability to log weights of foods being signed in and out of fridge.
  • Monitoring fridge temperatures and recording daily.
  • Ability to collect food from local businesses and deliver to the fridge.
  • Ensure that food is transported safely according to Health and Safety guidelines.

Reports to: Community Fridge Coordinator – Refurbs Flint

Length of Appointment:  On Going - Long term opportunities available

Time Commitment: 2 days average 2-hour commitment. The fridge is currently open 1 day a week (Wednesdays 9.30am-11.30am) with collections and deliveries on a Tuesday. Then supporting at events to promote community fridge.

Qualifications required: None required as LEVEL 2 Food Safety training will be provided. An interest in customer service and helping in the community.

Support / Training offered:

  • Regular support meetings with Community Fridge Coordinator
  • Range of training provided including practical training.
  • Chance to make new friends and gain experience in a relaxed, supportive, environment.

Age Requirement: 18 upwards.

Dress Code: Casual clothing (PPE will be provided).

DBS Check required: No - all work will be supervised.

Additions: Travel expenses to be reimbursed.
