Minera Lead Mines and Venue in the Park, at Alyn Waters Country Park have lots of exciting activities taking place for all the family this summer!
After the fantastic success of the school holiday activities at Minera Lead Mines in 2018 and at the start of 2019, Groundwork North Wales are expanding the activities to Venue in the Park at Alyn Waters Country Park. Download our Summer Fun 2019 leaflet HERE
Both Minera Lead Mines and Alyn Waters Country Park offer a fantastic opportunity for the whole family to get outside in the natural environment. At Minera you have 53 acres of grassland, wooded areas and archaeological sites to explore including the restored beam engine house, winding engine and boiler houses.
Minera Lead Mines is not alone in sharing an interesting past. The site at Alyn Waters sits on top of a pile of sand, gravel and clay dumped by the melting glaciers at the end of the last ice age 13,000 years ago. However, it was not only sand, gravel and clay dumped by the glacier. In 1966 part of a woolly mammoth’s huge tusk was unearthed (the tusk is now in the Liverpool Museum). Now the site is a rich variety of grassland flowers, including thousands of common spotted Orchids, and plentiful numbers of Pyramid and Bee Orchids.
Venue in the Park where the activities will be held at Alyn Waters Country Park can be found behind Caffi Cyfle. Contracted by Wrexham County Borough Council, Groundwork North Wales now operate the event space Venue in the Park and Caffi Cyfle at Alyn Waters Country Park.
Caffi Cyfle is a place where delicious, seasonal and wholesome foods are created that everyone can enjoy as well as providing inclusive opportunities for the wider community to participate in work and volunteering programmes. Our emphasis is on using fresh, sustainably sourced local ingredients and supporting Welsh suppliers. A new menu has been launched featuring paninis, a new Club sandwich, hot and cold drinks, fantastic cakes locally produced and much more. The menu is available yn Gymraeg.
